MISSION STATEMENT
It is the mission of the Hampstead Media Center to provide support to the school community with quality instruction and resources that promote the love of reading, help students become better readers and assist in the quest for ideas and information. The Library Media program is designed to support the curriculum at Hampstead Elementary.
STAFF AND PROCEDURES
The Hampstead Elementary Media Center is staffed by a full-time Media Specialist, Mrs. Annie Martin, and a part-time Media clerk, Mrs. Bridget Elkins. Students in Grades 1-5 have Media class once a week for 30 minutes. Kindergarten students have two 30 minute Media classes each week. The Media Center is also open for students from 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Students in Kindergarten, First, and Second grades borrow one book every week while students in Third, Fourth, and Fifth grades borrow two books every other week during Media time. Students are encouraged to use the Media Center throughout the day in order to find quality reading material as well as to assist in research and school projects.
SPECIAL EVENTS
The Hampstead Elementary Media Center hosts a book fair each fall. Students are also encouraged to take part in our Media Festival and Photography contest each winter. Special literature activities take place each spring during School Library Media Month in April. This includes students judging picture books and chapter books for the Maryland Black-Eyed Susan Book Award. Also 4th & 5th grade students can participate in the region's Battle of the Books.
The HES News Express is our school's live daily news show produced by Hampstead 5th graders. This show highlights exciting achievements and happenings around our school.
