Resources / Family Support
Family Support is a program that provides families, professionals, and the community with information, training, and support.Family Support serves all families in CCPS, including families of children with disabilities requiring an IEP, children with 504’s and families who may need guidance navigating community or school resources.
Family Support is sponsored by CCPS with financial support through MSDE.
Family Support hosts monthly Family Support Nights.Child care is typically provided at the monthly Family Nights.Additional topics are presented throughout the year as well.

Basics, DDA/Transitions, Talk about Puberty and your changing body, Grief and taking care of yourself, Vendor Fair, Sibling/Parent panel, Financial/Legal presentations, Sensory Strategies, Transition to College, Transition from IFSP to IEP, Getting Ready for Kindergarten.

Sensory Friendly Films
AMC Theatres and the Autism Society have teamed up to bring families affected by Autsim and other disabilities a special opportunitiy to enjoy their favorite movies ina safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis with the "Sensory Friendly Films" program.
In order to provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for the unique audience, th movie auditoriums will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, families will be able to bring in their own gluten free, casein-free snacks and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie. Additionally, audience members are welcom to get up and dance, walk, shout and sing - in other words, AMC'S "Silence is Golden" policy will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience is questioned.

NEW Parent Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures for Students in our Autism/LFI/Prep Programs:
Morning Drop Off: Parents will need to park theirr car and walk their child to the front of the building and wait under the awning. A Hampstead staff member will be out to greet you and walk your child into the building.
Afternoon Pick UP: Parents will need to park their cars and report to the front door of the school and wait under the awning. A Hampstead staff member will bring your child out to you for dismissal.
Please share this information with anyone who will be dropping off and/or pick up at the end of the school day.

Dates to Remember:
Theme
This month we will focus on winter and snow. We will explore new toys and snow (imitation and real). We will use shovels and throw pretend and paper snowballs. We are focusing on those action words and the “ing” ending (I am sledding.) The children will have hats, boots, scarves, mittens and gloves to explore at play and learn about winter clothing and where it goes. Putting on mittens (and gloves) requires bilateral hand use and takes patience and persistence. We will continue to work on matching, sorting, counting, and sizes. For literacy, we work to answer questions and make connections from our personal experiences to the characters in the books. We will work on pronouns “he” and “she.” Please help us by reinforcing these skills at home. If you have questions, drop me a note. We will do some special activities to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

This month I’d like you to focus on reading and the February calendar of activities. The activities can be switched around or changed to fit your schedule and opportunities that come up. We encourage you to explore Jan Brett at www.janbrett.com/activities_pages.htm She is a great author and has activities to go with her books and characters. Starfall is a great site for letter exploration and poems (www.starfall.com ). Let me know if you visit sites that we can share with other parents. Check out the sites on the Hampstead Bookmark for Tumblebooks and Capstone and Discovery Education.

Theme
This month we will focus on winter, snow and hibernation. We will have special day activities to address Valentine’s Day and President’s Day. In addition, we’ll explore dental health and open a class dentist office. In math, we are working on measurement to compare length or weight. We will use words like longer/shorter, heavier/lighter and taller/shorter. We will continue working on number concepts and reviewing shapes and positional language. We have extended number concepts with 10 frames and problem solving. For literacy, we’ll be talking about letters making words and using the sounds we hear to write words. We will continue to explore print (spaces between words, capital letters at the beginning of sentences, and punctuation marks). Please help us support learning by reviewing pages that come home, reading daily, and participating in the many home connections: literacy and fine motor folders and the monthly calendar page. Have your child draw a new picture to place at the top of the calendar they made in January. Then add the calendar page to the bottom. It’s a great way to encourage drawing and displays the days’ activities. Drawing is a way to express ideas and is also used in math to show problem solving.
Extensions
This month you can focus on the calendar of daily activities and using the literacy folder entries to underline words that start with a targeted letter. We encourage you to explore Jan Brett at www.janbrett.com/activities_pages.htm ; she is a great author and has activities to go with her books and characters; we will read several of her books this month. You can also practice having your child point to each word as you read a large print story. This builds 1:1 correspondence for reading and helps differentiate a word from a sentence. Check out www.starfall.com for letters, poems, songs, and math activities. Don’t forget all the sites on the Hampstead bookmark.
